Enable API & Obtain Identity Token
Enable the API
Obtain an Identity Token
Overview
What’s an API and why do I need an Identity Token? Identity tokens authorize you to connect to the Roadmap app, and send data back and forth. We use Identity Tokens as a security measure to make sure your data stays yours.
How does Roadmap use an Identity Token? Odometer and Roadmap’s Browser Extension use the API and Identity Token to allow you to enter data outside of Roadmap. Follow the steps below to enable the API for your account, and get your own Identity Token.
Enable the API
The API must be enabled before it can be used. It is enabled within Roadmap as follows:
- Requires admin privilege
- Go to Settings > Connecting Applications
- Click the Enable API button
Obtain an Identity Token
Once the API is enabled, Roadmap users can obtain an identity token (needed for browser extension, time tracking with Odometer, JIRA integration, etc). To obtain a token:
- Go to your Account page
- Under the Roadmap Identity Token heading, click generate / show link
- Token can be copied+pasted
